MUDEK (Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs)
MUDEK, founded in 2002 by the deans of engineering faculties in Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, has been operating as an independent non-governmental organization since 2007 and is recognized by the Higher Education Quality Council of Türkiye (YÖKAK) as a national quality assurance agency. By evaluating engineering education programs against a comprehensive set of criteria ranging from curriculum design and teaching resources to student achievement and graduate performance it promotes continuous improvement in engineering education.
The MUDEK Accreditation Process of the Department of Industrial Engineering at Balıkesir University
Preparation and Documentation: To meet MUDEK’s ten fundamental criteria—ranging from curriculum structure and educational objectives to physical and technological infrastructure and faculty qualifications—our department has initiated a systematic data collection process and prepared a comprehensive self-evaluation report.
Stakeholder Engagement and Continuous Improvement: Processes are regularly revised through meetings held with academic and administrative units, as well as through feedback gathered from students and alumni. In this way, a culture of quality is progressively integrated into the department.
Site Visits and Evaluation: A structured documentation and evidence system has been developed in preparation for the site visits to be conducted by MUDEK evaluators. The overall evaluation process is expected to be completed within approximately 1.5 years.
Goal and Expected Impact
Upon achieving full accreditation, our department will gain national and international recognition with respect to program outcomes (e.g., within the USDAC/Washington Accord and EUR-ACE frameworks). The professional competencies of our graduates will be further strengthened, and our continuous improvement strategies will become more explicit and actionable.
